Rev. Carol Lakota Eastin
Carol is an ordained elder in the IL Great Rivers UMC Conference. She holds a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Illinois State University. She is a Fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.
She was the founding pastor of Dayspring Native American United Methodist Church. She is a contributing author of “We Hold Our Stories in Blankets” in Women out of Order: Risking Change and Creating Care in a Multicultural World, (2009) and “Seeing Through American Indian Eyes” in Women With 2020 Vision, (2020), and in On this Spirit Walk (Henrietta Mann and Anita Phillips). She has been a frequent guest speaker at University classes, professional conferences , and as a Retreat Leader. Her journey has included raising two sons, serving as Return to Pimiteoui Pow Wow Director, 10 years as a Pastoral Counselor / psychotherapist, pastoring local churches, missionary assignment, and as a district superintendent.
Rev. Carol Lakota Eastin is a United Methodist pastor who has worked in Native American ministries for thirty years. She co-chaired the National Committee for the United Methodist Act of Repentance with Indigenous Peoples, and is on the board of the Native American International Caucus, working with the Native American Youth program. She is on the board and faculty of the Native American Course of Study which trains Native pastors. Through MorningSky Leadership Initiative she coaches and consults with Native American Pastors and churches. Carol is the Chair of the North Central Jurisdiction Volunteers in Mission Board.
Her heritage is Lakota, French, and Irish. She lives in Mt Vernon Illinois.
Dr. David Scott
Dr. David W. Scott is Director of Mission Theology at the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, where his work helps United Methodists around the world to reflect on the nature of mission and how to best join in God’s mission in the present day and age. He coordinated the 200th anniversary celebration (in 2019) of the founding of the first Methodist mission society in the United States, has contributed to the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism’s work on mission from the margins and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Missionary Council, and is a board member of the American Society of Missiology. He has taught mission, church history, world religions, and leadership at Ripon College, Eden Theological Seminary, and through the United Methodist Course of Study. He is the author or editor of the books Unlikely Friends, The Practice of Mission in Global Methodism, Methodist Mission at 200, Crossing Boundaries, and Mission as Globalization as well as the blogmaster for the UM & Global website (www.umglobal.org).
