UMVIM Internship

In our 40th year of ministry UMVIM, SEJ is excited to launch a new program. Our mission has been to inspire change in the world and this summer students from across the Southeast can join us in that mission. Summer 2013 UMVIM, SEJ will have the first College Internship program. This is a 9 week program where a student will spend 2 weeks in the Birmingham, AL UMVIM, SEJ office, 3 weeks at an UMVIM, SEJ domestic project, 3 weeks at an UMVIM, SEJ international project and then 1 week of debriefing in the UMVIM, SEJ Birmingham, AL office. The student will get to experience various aspects of mission and ministry, spend time with mentors, see justice at work, and spend time in discernment of their calling. Student’s room and board arrangements:
While the student is in Birmingham, Alabama they will be living at the Wesley Foundation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During this time they will have allowances for food and there are many options around the UAB campus. This atmosphere provides the student with a community during their time in Birmingham. During the student’s other assignments they will stay on-site and eat all meals with the staff and teams.

Selection Process:

Applications are due Friday, February 8, 2013. Interviews will begin the beginning of March and the selections will be made by April 5, 2013.

Mentors:

We believe mentoring is key throughout the internship process. The student will continue to meet with their mentor as they learn aspects of the ministry each week. They will have several mentors, but Paulette West will be their constant contact throughout their time with UMVIM, SEJ. Even when they are placed internationally they will be in contact via email and telephone.

What Universities are saying:

“This internship with SEJ-UMVIM would be extremely valuable for our students. As you know, Pfeiffer is the only UM-related College with an undergraduate degree in missions. Many of our students have had “mountain-top” experience on mission trips in high school that have led to a calling to full-time ministry and/or missions. However many students are still in the discernment process about what this calling will become. This internship will allow students to add a valuable experience outside the classroom to help students affirm their calling. It will also allow them to network and meet others with a similar calling who can nurture and further their career plans. I would also add that we have both an undergraduate and master’s level program in missions and I believe that this internship would be valuable for both undergraduate and graduate students. Moreover, it will also allow them some valuable experience to put on their resume. Thank you for offering this valuable opportunity for our students.”
