Where will we be staying? You will be staying at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Marietta, GA. You will eat most of your meals, take showers, and sleep at the church.
What will we be doing? Students will work in downtown Atlanta from Monday to Thursday. They will seek out the least and the lost passing out food, clothing, and toiletries to the homeless. This program is less about manual labor and more about relational ministry. Your students will get the chance to see a different side of life and come into contact with people who aren’t much different from them. Many of the homeless live under overpasses and in tent cities, and your students will be able to not only witness needs but will also have the opportunity to fill them. They will spend one day working in a soup kitchen and one day working with a church that focuses on homeless outreach. Two days will be devoted to the overpasses.
What happens at night? Every night will consist of dinner, a worship service, and a speaker. You will have plenty of time with your group afterward for a devotional. Resources will be provided, but feel free to use your own material.
What happens Friday? Friday is a free day. We encourage you to enjoy some of the many attractions Atlanta offers. Six Flags, White Water, and the Atlanta Aquarium are just to name a few. Tickets to these places are not covered in the registration fee. However, for your convenience, we will supply group rate tickets to Six Flags, White Water, or the Aquarium for only $26 more per person.
What is the cost of the trip? The trip costs $199 per person. For an extra $26 per person we can purchase group tickets to Six Flags, White Water, or the Atlanta Aquarium to be used on your free day.
What about food? The registration fee covers all meals except lunch on Friday.
How do I reserve a spot? Call Gabe Barrett at (270) 293-2093 to reserve your spot. Then, send in your registration form and deposit.
Where do I send checks for our payments? Please make checks payable to Mt. Bethel UMC, with “M25″ in the “For” line. Then send them to “M25 Summer Mission” at 4385 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068.
What are the deadlines? A deposit of $50 per person is due prior to April 1, 2011. The final balance is due 30 days prior to arrival.
Where do I find out more? Go to www.m-twentyfive.org for more info.

Celebrate Real Love this Valentine’s Day
“Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”
1 John 3:18
This morning, my good friend and colleague, Maria Underwood, reminded me of something very important via Twitter. She said:
The world needs more real love. Seeing humanity through rose colored glasses, not just one person. #beeveryonesvalentine.
On Valentine’s Day, we celebrate love in all its forms and we give thanks for love that we have received. On this Valentine’s Day, we here at UMVIM hope that you’ll make the world your Valentine and do something to express your love for those who need it the most.

A Request for Team Members from Bruce McFadden
Our team is still being assembled. We will have American health care workers as well as Hondurans and Cubans. This will be the fourth time I have been into the area, It is a beautiful area and the trips up the rivers into the rain forest are exciting. It is hard work. There will be extensive travel and you would rarely sleep in the same place two nights in a row.
The extreme travel times associated with travel into this area require a mission trip of this length. Thirteen days is a long time to be away from family and work, but our goals and travel require this much time.
The projected coast for each team member is in the order of $1500+/-. This would include travel, food, lodging ……. just about everything.
I would be glad to discuss this trip in detail if you are interested.

Prayers for Haiti
January 12, 2011
Today is the one year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that affected 3 million–leaving a million homeless and hundreds of thousands dead. In the past year, survivors have been struck by multiple tropical depressions, Hurricane Tomas in October, and also a cholera outbreak which began in late October.
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, SEJ teams have been serving to deconstruct broken buildings, reconstruct homes/schools/churches, assist in medical clinics, deliver food and supplies to families in refugee camps, and share Christ’s love.
Due to political unrest regarding the recent presidential election all UMVIM teams for the second half of the month of January have been cancelled.
Our prayers are with the families that lost loved ones.
Our prayers are with the survivors living in refugee tent camps.
Our prayers are with the government officials working to restore their country.
Our prayers are with the volunteers committed to bringing the peace and hope of Jesus through practical means.
We thank the churches and individuals who have poured out their prayers and help for the Haitians and we encourage you to continue. There remains much work to be done.
“The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:2-3
